About the Company

Founded in 2000 by Cem Catbas & Elysabeth Muscat, Baltimore Ballet presents world class dancing at affordable prices to dance enthusiasts from the greater Baltimore/Washington region. Audiences can enjoy international stars and up-and-coming, award winning dancers. Baltimore Ballet's repertoire includes The Nutcracker, Les Sylphides, Giselle, Swan Lake, Scheherazade, La Bayadere (Kingdom of the Shades), The Firebird, Pas de Quatre, Pictures at an Exhibition, Carnival of the Animals, and A Gershwin Rhapsody, (choreographed by Artistic Director Cem Catbas), and Salome's Daughters(choreographed by Nejla Yatkin.). The Company has performed at the Lyric Opera House for its 10 Year Anniversary Gala and as part of the Balitmore Artscape Festival, with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall (see the picture to the right), Goucher College Kraushaar Auditorium, the Morris A. Mechanic Theater, Towson University Stephens Hall, MD Hall for the Performing Arts, and the Baltimore Museum of Art Meyerhoff Auditorium, as well as outreach performances at local retirement communities.

Elysabeth Muscat, Executive  Director and Co-Founder of Baltimore Ballet, is a former professional opera singer who sang leading operatic roles with the Staatsoper Prague, Zürich Opera, Vienna Kammeroper, Koblenz Opera, L’Opéra Français, and Mannes Camerata.  She was a soloist with the Rheinische Philharmonic, the Südwestdeutsche Symphony, Neue Musik Orchestra Basel, and Northshore Symphony Orchestra.  She won the Friday Music Club and Pittsburgh Concert Society Competitions and was finalist in numerous international competitions.  She is also a two-time recipient of the Individual Artist Award in Solo Voice from the State of MD.  She is President of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, MD/DC State Chapter.  She has been Chair of the Peabody Preparatory Voice Department since 2003, and her students have won many awards and have been accepted to top conservatories including Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Peabody, New England Conservatory, Mannes, Oberlin, and more.  She has judged many vocal competitions including the Baltimore County Solo and Ensemble Festival, the Music Teachers Association Southern Maryland's Scholarship Competition, the NOVA Idol Competition, and National Association of Teachers of Singing State and Regional competitions.  She has a Masters of Music in Voice from the Mannes College of Music and a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Tulane University.  She has been managing Baltimore Ballet School and Baltimore Ballet Company since their inception in 2000.
